Dr. Caeiro is an Assistant Professor of Architectural Engineering at the College of Engineering, Alfaisal University. Prior to joining Alfaisal University he served for five years as an Assistant Professor of Civil and Architectural Engineering at Texas A&M University - Kingsville, USA. Between 2004 – 2007 he was a Post-Doc Research Fellow at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London, UK. He has over 10 years of previous experience working in the shipping, environmental and energy conservation industries.
Dr. Caeiro possesses a Ph.D. in Built Environment, with concentration in heat powered cooling cycles, from the Institute of Building Technology, University of Nottingham, UK ( 2004), a Master's degree in Energy Systems and the Environment from the University of Strathclyde, UK (2001), a Mechanical Engineering degree (1997), and a Marine Engineering degree (1989), both obtained from universities in Portugal.
His research interests center on improving the energy performance of the building stock, mainly through the integration of low energy solutions into buildings, optimization of its operation, energy economics and policies affecting the energy use in buildings. In addition, his wider research interests also encompass building thermodynamics, thermal systems modeling and simulation of energy flows in complex energy systems. Dr. Caeiro attended and presented the results of his research at prestigious international conferences in Europe and the USA, and has published extensively.
Dr. Caeiro is a full member of ASHRAE, a member of the academic council of the AEI and a senior member of the AEE.
Dr. Ramazan Demirboga received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Civil Engineering from Middle East Technical University and Dumlupinar University, Turkey, in 1992 and 1995, respectively. He completed his Ph.D. in Structural Engineering, Construction Materials, in civil Engineering, at the Ataturk University, Turkey, in 1999. He is currently a full Professor at the Architectural Engineering Department, the College of Engineering, Alfaisal University, Saudi Arabia. He has taught at different international universities. He has authored more than 100 journal publications and refereed conference publications. His primary research goals are directed to investigate the usability of solid wastes in the construction of concrete structures in addition of inorganic-based sustainable materials such as green concrete, geopolymeric binders, nano materials that address a unique spectrum of challenges and issues facing sustainable structural materials. He has used different waste solids in both concrete and cement production as aggregate or supplementary and made significant contributions to meso- and microstructure characterization and multi-scale properties of structural materials incorporating “green cements”, low-thermal conductivity and low density. He used lab-based, micro- and nano-technologies to develop green concretes, evaluate mechanical and durability characteristics at varying scales and develop mixing strategies. He received the Outstanding Research incentive award from many institutes. Dr.Demirboga has developed and completed more than 20 Research Projects with international partners from Ohio State University, University Putra Malaysia and Ataturk University. He supervised many masters and Ph.D students. He has taught different courses related to the construction materials and structural engineering at graduate and undergraduate level.
Dr. Aliaa Elabd is an assistant professor of architectural engineering in the college of Engineering at Alfaisal University. Dr. Aliaa is a licensed architect in Egypt, where she received her bachelor degree in architecture. She also holds a master’s degree in urban design from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Aliaa earned her Ph.D. in Design degree from North Carolina State University with a focus on the integration between physical and social aspects of place in creating healthy neighborhoods. Dr. Aliaa has a considerable teaching experience in North Carolina State University, where she taught a variety of courses including: introduction to architecture, and architectural design studios. Currently, she teaches various courses at Alfaisal University such as: the built environment, architectural design studios, environment, economics and policy, and architecture and buildings. Dr. Aliaa presented in international conferences in both the U.S and Europe. Also, she published in peer reviewed journals and in conference proceedings. Dr. Aliaa’s current research is focusing on 1) architectural education and the impact of technology and globalization on architectural curriculum, 2) Sustainability meaning and implication throughout the built environment, and 3) the impact of the design of the built environment on improved health outcome, especially in the case of obesity-related diseases.
Arch. Francisco J. Casas Cobo
He was the Vice-Chair of the Department of Architectural Engineering at Dar Al Uloom University and before that he was teaching at Istituto Europeo di Design, Universidad Europea de Madrid, Universidad de Salamanca and Universidad San Jorge Zaragoza, Architectural Association School of London (Summer School 2011) and was selected for the Visiting Teachers’ Programme (AA London, 2010).

As practitioner, he founded bRijUNi architects with Beatriz Villanueva and their work has been featured in A10 new European Architecture (Netherlands), Onoffice (United Kingdom), SUMMA+ (Argentina), Rassegna di Architettura e Urbanistica (Italy) or Archdaily and “Daily prepositions” in Seville, Évora (Portugal) –as part of Mostra Espanha- and Madrid.
As researcher, He participated in peer reviewed congresses -The Architectural Competition (KTH Stockholm), VIII International Congress The History of Modern Spanish Architecture, I International Conference on Architectural Design and Criticism, 5th Annual International Conference on Architecture (Athens), Le Corbusier 50 years after-, and wrote more than one hundred texts for Pasajes de Arquitectura y Crítica, Diseño Interior, Future, De Architect (Netherlands), Plataforma Arquitectura, AA Conversations (U. K.)…
As curator, he organized exhibitions and events in Spain (Ménage a trois, F. A. Q., Portfolio Speed Dating, On the Verge of Criticism) and abroad being the last one the exhibition and catalogue of “Couples&Co.: 22 Mirror Stories of Spanish Architecture” displayed at the Spanish Embassy in Berlin in 2015, Hafencity University Hamburg and Fundación Valentín de Madariaga, Seville in 2016.
Dr. Tarek Mokhtar is an Arch-roboticist, Designer, Chairman of the Architectural Engineering Department, and Assistant Professor of Architectural Engineering in the College of Engineering at Alfaisal University. He is the founder and coordinator of the intelligent Design and Art (iDNA) Research Group at the CoE of Alfaisal University. He is a member of the Institute for Intelligent Materials, Systems and Environments (iMSE), Clemson University, USA, and an Executive Editor at the Journal of Architectural Engineering Technology (JAET).
Dr. Tarek Mokhtar has sixteen years of teaching experience in KSA (DAU and AU), USA (Clemson U), and Egypt (Ain Shams U). He teaches courses in digital design, architectural design, computation in architecture, interactive architectural systems, digital fabrication, theory of architecture, and construction drawings. Mokhtar earned an interdisciplinary PhD in Planning, Design and the Built Environment [PDBE] from Clemson University, USA, specialized in Architectural Materials + Systems on research stream 7.0: Intelligent Environments – "Architectural Robotics". He had also earned MS and BS in Architectural Engineering from the College of Engineering at Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt. Dr. Tarek Mokhtar's research explores embedding robotics and information technologies in the built environment. His research involves designing, prototyping and evaluating intelligent and interactive systems focusing on: Human-Robotic Interaction, Human-Centered Design, and the Socio-Cultural and Psychological factors affecting human-machine and -space interactions, at all scales of the built environment.
